Crystal and Kai: Getaway honeymoon in Vancouver

I was contacted by a friend of Crystal and Kai that was coming to Vancouver after their recent wedding in Asia. I always photograph my couples before the wedding, during the wedding, and after the wedding. Never was I invited to participate in doing some photos during their honeymoon! (*hint hint*) It was such a blast.

I think a premise is in order. Crystal is an actress/singer in Asia. I was told that she recently starred in the movie Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. (One of the movies I actually watched!) So being in the spotlight more often than not, she wanted some unique photos on each of their honeymoon destination. Something you couldn’t get anywhere else! At their Vancouver stop, they wanted something that ties the west coast roots with their photos. So we decided on an aboriginal theme to the whole shoot. We rented some very authentic costumes here in Vancouver with some awesome headgear! And headed for some westcoast mountain views and……. TOTEM POLES!

I had to do some homework for this shoot totally! I found some historic native indian portraits that were done and I tried to replicate them in some of the shots there. You’ll see most of them are in sepia and has a sense of grit and edginess in the male portraits. It was so fun and hard trying to do the serious looking shots. All in all, I think we got some really great shots. They really loved it!

Here’s what we got for the day:

Pre-Engagement Shoot -> Engagement Shoot – Tanya and Dustin

So here’s the story! Dustin contacted me a couple weeks back about doing some photos of him and his ‘girlfriend’ Tanya. With him being in Kamloops, we exchanged emails about a million time to stamp out the details! The plan was to go around Vancouver, take some photos, and at the end surprise Tanya with a marriage proposal! How awesome is that!?!

I was so psyched up for this shoot and was mentally preparing myself so I would not say anything to give it away! After all, we did called it a portrait session the whole time! So here goes…

Love this! 1 pose 4 look!

Did I mention that I love lens flares? I caught this awesome one here!

This was so funny. See the shadow? That’s my head! I was trying  to hide behind the seawall so that I’m not in the shot. With only my head peeking up, this well dressed dog gave me a weird look. There’s Tanya and Dustin on the top right.

We finally got to the beach! Our destination for proposal-ville!
I think Tanya is about the cry here…
SHE SAID YES!!

Congrats again Tanya and Dustin! Thanks for having me capture all the sweet moments! Give me a shout when you’ve set a date!

Real Weddings Magazine – Featured!

real weddings cover

Woohoo! We’re featured in the latest edition of Real Weddings magazine! Congrats to Krista and David as they are the stars! This year we only had time to submit one of our engagement shoots to Real Weddings. Being only allowed to sent one shot per engagement, it was such a tough choice. If you saw their pics, there was a million to choose from! I’m glad we got the right one! I can’t wait for their wedding next year!

Chrissie + Lex = Engagement

This was one awesome shoot. Meeting for the first time, I didn’t know what to expect. But one look and this couple’s got a unique style to them. We started out in Yaletown and then headed up to Gastown when the light dropped. We really like to draw from each couple’s personality in our engagement shoots. I think we got their soft side and their edgier side.

The funniest thing happened when Lex ran to fill up the parking meter while me and Chrissie was just waiting around. An “up and coming” photographer chatted up Chrissie to do some photos in the future……..while I was standing right there with camera in hand. Umm Hello! At least acknowledge my existence! Anyways….

Last couple of shots in Gastown was with street light only and I totally pulled off the impossible. Good thing I had my favourite lens with me. Gotta give it a good cleaning tonight!

Their wedding is coming up in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait to be working with Chrissie and Lex again!

Fall is one of my favorite season for photos! The colors are always soooo pretty and it’s just the right temperature to break out the jackets! Van Dusen was awesome as usual! So much variety there and we actually caught it on a semi sunny day! Claire and Robert will be getting married soon at Brix Restaurant in Yaletown just after X’mas! Here’s the engagement shots!
